Barding suggestions were asked for in Discord the other day, and I am making a forum post about it.

I tried provo about a month ago, so if changes have been made I don't know about them as I haven't tried it since.

  • The range at which monsters can be provo'd should be increased, 1/2 a screen it too low.
  • Monsters should fight to the death when provo'd to each other, and not stop fighting if the bard leaves the screen.
  • Failure rates across the board for barding seem high, even with power scrolls.


Most of my experience is with peacemaking, but I should be able to reliably provo skeletons and zombies at 50/50 provo music.

maybe... 

-lower the cooldown timer from provocation a bit
-remove the aggrocheck for hiding if you have a certain ammount of musi//provo

-maybe a songbook with "magic songs" (like magery spells) to give bards some group support power
 a song to bless all party member in range inkluding pets
 a song to heal   all party member in range         "
 maybe a song with a discordance effect

songs could be obtained by quests or worlddrop...

I'm not clear how bards would select which "song" to play. I've noted much of the rest for consideration.

Being able to stay hidden and provoke (if that's what Satan meant by removing aggro check) would have HUGE implications for dungeon crawling thieves (I'd drop detect hidden and remove trap since you could just get the spawn to fighting and then loot the chests). Also bards would pick up hiding and stealth for champs. Oaks spawn would be a breeze all the sudden....

Imagine the template 100 Hide/100 stealth/120 music/120 provoke/100 herding/100 magery. You stealth in to the champ alter and spend your time provoking through the spawn. Once the champ spawns you "herd" them away and bring in your alt to kill in complete safety.

I thought about mentioning the songs on this forum........but figured they were most certainly post AOS and wouldn't fly. They do bring a lot of value to having a bard in your party though, even for situations where they can't crowd control ( paragons or BTF for example).

Interesting about the song thing - never heard of that. Guess I'm just out of touch. I'll read up on it

This may be something that will get addressed in the future.....but right now I find provoking much more challenging to use effectively than before the barding distance and perception range of mobs was tampered with.

I find myself constantly trying to provoke two creatures and getting the success check and the "looks furious" above the mobs head- but the two dont actually start battling each other. My assumption is that it's because they're too far away to perceive each other?

The issue I take is that since it counted as a successful skill check, I must wait the 10 seconds to try again. Before the changes were made if two creature were too far away from each other (or you too far away from them) you'd get an error message stating such and could immediately use the provoking skill again.

I wanted to give the changs some playing time before I made any comments. But right now, personally, I'd rather go back to the old system before the changes. I personally never had a problem with the RANGE at which I could provoke......but more of the rate of success when using a GM instrument against higher level mobs (dragon on dragon, balron on dragon, drake on greater dragon, etc).

I'd like to put forth the request that barding (or at least provoking) ranges go back to default.....or at least undergo further tweaking. Thank you,

P.S. There's a distinct possibility I'm the only one that's having this issue.....and that the solution is for me to "git gud".

The perception changes were a stop gap measure put in place due to limited development time. Recent AI changes have made them obsolete and as a result the perception changes will be reverted. This should resolve the issue, but I'll wait for your observations. These changes will take affect starting 12/4
